A high-speed electric drive system for zero-emission vehicles: more power, less weight, lower environmental impact
Project Description:
The I.M.P.U.L.S.E. project, funded by Regione Piemonte under the Regional Program FESR 2021–2027, aims to develop an innovative high-speed electric drive system that is compact, lightweight, and efficient.
The entire system and the research and development activities involve a partnership of large companies and SMEs based in Piemonte, with the goal of creating a 3-in-1 electric powertrain (motor, inverter, reducer) with high power density, reducing the use of critical materials and improving environmental sustainability.
Within this project, Dumarey is responsible for the design and the development of the gearbox (reducer of motion).
Objectives:
The project aspires to revolutionize the electric mobility sector by developing a compact and highly efficient electric propulsion system.
As part of the IMPULSE project, Dumarey’s objective is to create a gearbox for a very high-speed electric motor, integrated with the inverter into a single 3-in-1 solution, capable of delivering high performance in terms of specific power, while also reducing weight, size, and the use of critical materials.
Through collaboration between Dumarey Automotive Italia S.P.A. and the project’s partner companies, the initiative aims to strengthen the regional e-mobility supply chain, promoting environmental sustainability and technological innovation.
Results Achieved:
The investments have enabled the company to achieve significant process and product innovations and allowed the project to validate an industrial prototype of a high-power-density motion reducer for electric propulsion in an operational environment, ready for industrialization.
A significant impact is expected in terms of CO₂ emission reduction and improved energy efficiency of electric vehicles.
Moreover, the project will contribute to the growth of technical and scientific skills among the participating companies, generating new market opportunities and reinforcing Piedmont’s role as a strategic hub for innovation in sustainable mobility.
