Applications:
Generator downsized from 220 kVA to 80 kVA, delivering approximately €380 weekly fuel savings and up to 49 tonnes of CO₂ reduction annually.
BAM Ireland operates a Wolffkran 7032FL, a 12-tonne capacity tower crane, in a crane storage yard. This crane is mounted on rails with a travelling frame, allowing it to service the entire yard. When powered by diesel generators, BAM typically used a 220 kVA Cummins generator to handle the crane’s dynamic load profile, which includes:
This resulted in:
BAM sought to determine whether generator downsizing was possible without compromising crane performance.
The testing demonstrated that significant generator downsizing could be achieved without compromising crane performance:
Operational insights showed:
Additional benefits include reduced costs associated with transporting, deploying, and maintaining smaller generators.
Dumarey deployed the Peak Power 200 flywheel system alongside progressively smaller generators to identify the optimal configuration.
Two approaches to downsizing were considered:
The testing process included:
The system successfully handled all demands, with data logged remotely and analysed in real time. Further testing was conducted using a 66 kVA generator:
Final analysis determined that an 80 kVA generator combined with Peak Power 200 provided the optimal balance.
The Peak Power 200:

Delivers instant power to manage dynamic crane loads

Reduces generator size, fuel consumption, and operating costs

Ensures performance is maintained during high-demand operations

Improves overall system efficiency and reduces emissions
litres of fuel saved per week
€ weekly cost savings
tonnes of CO₂ avoided per year

Dumarey Green Power supplied London Tower Cranes a Revolution Battery to run a tower crane. The battery removed the requirement for a diesel generator which cut costs and emissions.
The Peak Power 200 flywheel enabled a WOLFF tower crane at Dubai Harbour to run on a downsized 200kVA generator instead of a 500kVA diesel unit – delivering significant fuel and emissions savings even in extreme heat conditions where battery systems struggle.
Dumarey Green Power supplied a Revolution Battery to Brogan Group for trialling on a construction hoist. The battery captured regenerative energy and eliminated the need for a diesel generator, cutting costs and emissions.
Dumarey Revolution Battery is used to power two tower cranes simultaneously, removing a diesel generator from site and saving 2 tonnes of CO₂ per week.
Dumarey Green Power supplied a major UK contractor a hybrid power solution combining a PowerSkid second-life battery energy storage system and a Peak Power 200 flywheel system to power five Terex CTL-630 luffing jib cranes.
