Falcon Tower Cranes, the UK’s largest tower crane provider, is doubling its fleet of Revolution Batteries from Dumarey Green Power, following the successful deployment of its initial order earlier this year.

“The first units have been in constant demand since delivery,” said Rupert Cook, Associate Service Director at Falcon Tower Cranes. “These batteries deliver significant cost savings by reducing generator rental and fuel consumption — alongside clear environmental benefits. High demand in the market and strong confidence in the technology are driving this next phase of investment.”

Traditionally, construction sites rely on diesel generators to power tower cranes when mains electricity is insufficient. However, this approach presents increasing challenges as environmental regulations tighten and sustainability becomes a top priority.

“Diesel generators equipped with emissions controls — such as particulate filters and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems — often struggle with the highly variable load profiles of tower cranes,” explained Jon Drakeley, Director of Product at Dumarey Green Power. “These fluctuating loads can compromise the reliability of emissions systems and increase maintenance costs.”

The Revolution Battery addresses these issues by enabling a hybrid power setup. A small diesel generator is used only to charge the battery when necessary, significantly reducing fuel consumption, emissions, and noise pollution. Alternatively, the system can charge from mains power, allowing even a limited grid connection to power large cranes — a major benefit in urban environments where grid capacity is constrained.

In addition to operational efficiency, the Revolution Battery offers a compact footprint compared to traditional diesel setups, saving valuable space on crowded construction sites.

As an industrial battery energy storage system (BESS), the Revolution Battery is engineered to deliver high output power from a compact energy storage base. By decoupling storage capacity from power delivery, Dumarey Green Power has developed a system that requires fewer battery cells — resulting in lower embedded emissions, improved efficiency, and a smaller environmental impact.

Manufactured in the UK, the Revolution Battery also supports local supply chains and workforce development. By sourcing locally and minimizing transport emissions, Dumarey Green Power aligns its production practices with the UK construction sector’s broader sustainability goals.

“Construction firms are under increasing pressure to adopt greener, more sustainable technologies,” added Rupert Cook. “The Revolution Battery not only supports those environmental goals but also provides clear, measurable cost savings. It’s a win-win.”
